My Aspire Scholarship Journey at Smurfit - Molly Daly
My Aspire Scholarship Journey at Smurfit
Hi, my name is Molly and I’m currently a student on the Marketing Development Practice programme here at Smurfit. I’m also incredibly proud to be one of this year’s recipients of the Aspire Scholarship.
When I started looking into master’s programmes at Smurfit, I knew I’d need financial support to make it happen. So I began researching the scholarships available and whether I met the eligibility criteria. That’s how I came across the Aspire Scholarship and it felt like the perfect fit. I found all the details on the Smurfit website, including who the scholarship is aimed at and how to apply, and from there I just went for it.
The Aspire Scholarship is designed for ambitious, high-potential individuals living in Ireland who may face financial barriers to pursuing a postgraduate degree at UCD Smurfit. It aims to support students who are driven to succeed and make a meaningful impact in their fields and communities.
To apply for the Aspire Scholarship, you first need to secure and formally accept a place on a master’s programme at Smurfit. Once that’s done, you submit an online application explaining why you’re a strong candidate, along with a financial needs assessment to confirm your eligibility. If you’re shortlisted, you’re invited to an interview, where they ask about your background, your skills, and how you align with the mission of the scholarship. It’s a very supportive process, but they do look for candidates who are passionate and have a clear sense of purpose.
Getting the scholarship lifted a huge weight off my shoulders. It covers 50% of tuition fees, which made the decision to pursue a master’s so much more manageable. But honestly, one of the best parts of Aspire is the community. There are networking events, mentorship opportunities, and a real sense of belonging. You’re surrounded by people who believe in you and want to see you succeed.
Since joining, I’ve had the chance to meet other scholars, connect with alumni, and take part in development and networking sessions that are helping me grow professionally and personally. The support doesn’t stop once you get the scholarship, it continues throughout your time at Smurfit and beyond. The alumni are always happy to offer advice, introduce you to others in their network, or connect you with people who can help you move forward in your career. There have also been loads of opportunities to hear from past Aspire scholars, learn how the scholarship helped them, and see where they are now in their careers. It really is a community, and I’m so excited to be part of it and to see how I can make the most of it in the future.
If you’re thinking about applying, I couldn’t recommend it more. Aspire looks beyond grades, it’s about your potential, your drive, and your vision for the future. It’s not just a scholarship, it’s a platform for growth and opportunity, and I’m so grateful to be part of it.
